Malaria toll far higher than thought

Malaria kills more than 1.2 million people a year, nearly 50 percent more than previously thought, and inflicts a high toll among adults and older children and not just toddlers, a new investigation says. Read the full article.

Zero malaria deaths is within our reach

Dear Volunteers of Peace Corps Tanzania,

In 2010 over half of a million people died from malaria.[1] This is more people than in the average American city. Imagine the entire city of Atlanta[2] being wiped off the map. The year before, we lost Denver[3]. The year before that, all of San Francisco[4], all gone, in one fell swoop.



Tanzania Reads

Some of our beloved RPCVs are continuing to make good in the world with an NGO called Tanzania Reads that works to establish libraries in Secondary Schools.   If you are considering, or currently working on, a library project, they'll help you, and as math and science teachers in Tanzania from several years ago, they understand all the problems with libraries.  More info can be found here.  Tanzania reads is also listed on our links page.
